They say better late than never. Kenyans wishing to use the Madaraka express will now be able to order their tickets through sms payment option.
One will be required to just dial #639# and pay for the ticket via Mpesa as opposed to earlier method when one was required to visit the stations to secure a ticket.
The service will be available from September 23rd and one will be able to buy upto 5 tickets at least seven days in advance.
An online payment platform is also at the trial stages and is expected to be launched soon.
Kenya Railways Managing Director Atanas Maina is quoted saying “We are seeking to leverage the technology offered by the new platform to counter the secondary market of tickets by middlemen who have taken advantage of the use of the stations as the main source of tickets.”
