Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has been elected as the Chairman of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNTWO) Commission for Africa.
Balala who was unveiled at the ongoing 22nd General Assembly of the UNWTO conference in the city of Chengdu (China) takes over from Zimbabwe’s Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi.
Mzembi served in the position from 2015-2017 having been re-elected.
Balala who has always been credited for streamlining and scaling the tourism sector in the country to greater heights will serve for the 2017- 2019 term.
Before joining the Tourism Ministry he was the Cabinet Secretary for Mining. He has also served as the Mvita Member of parliament.
UNTWO is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.
