A section of Mombasa entertainment industry players last evening endorsed Suleiman Shahbal for the Mombasa gubernatorial position.
The players mainly from the film, music and other creative industries argued Shahbal is the “right person” to promote the county’s entertainment industry at large accusing the crurent administration led by Governor Joho of sidelining them and focusing on “outsiders”.
“The County government has been busy focusing on artists like Chris Brown, Ali Kiba and Diamond yet we have our own Who are very talented, this is totally unacceptable” Said filmaker Hassan Faisal.
“We have very nice locations for shooting movies but we lack the goodwill and level playing field” he added.
On his part musician Bawazir argued the industry needs a supportive administration in order to prosper and players benefit from their talents.
He charged “All we are asking from you Shahbal is your full support, we have alot of talents but they have lacked the necessary support”.
Addressing the gathering, Shahbal promised them of their full support and ensure that there is enough employement through the talents.
“All these issues you have raised are very important and i promise you that all these will change when we take over” he noted.
“We have given alot of priority to talents from outside and leaving behind our own, this is very dangerous and things have to change ” he added.
Shahbal also promised to ensure there is a platform to establish and promote talents.
“We will start our own talent search, Mombasa got talent which will take place every year, this is just part of my agenda to creation of employement and empowering our youth ” he argued.
