Kenya Premier League coast-based side Bandari football club team manager Alfred Achayo Obwaka will be buried this coming weekend in Siaya county.
The funeral committee secretary Alban Wambua said Obwaka will be laid to rest at his rural Kiswaro village home in Rarieda constituency.
Wambua said the committee has organized a funds drive on Tuesday at the Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] Mbaraki sportsclub in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.
‘’According to a tentative program the funeral requiem for the deceased will be held on Wednesday at an open ground at KPA Mbaraki sports club,’’ he pointed out.
The funeral committee spokesman told journalists on Thursday both close friends and relatives will depart by road to Kisumu earlier following a government ban on night travel.
Wambua confirmed the deceased will be airlifted to Kisumu airport on Friday morning from Mombasa’s Moi international airport via Jomo Kenyatta international airport accompanied by family members.
“Upon arrival the at Kisumu local arrangements have been made for travel for the weekend burial in Rarieda constituency,” he pointed out.
The funeral committee spokesman said they have opened a paybill no 204733 for contributions to assist in the funeral arrangements.
A fortnight ago the football fraternity was plunged into mourning after the death of the 43-year old Obwaka who hadcollapsed after complaining of chest pains at his house at Majengo in Mvita constituency.
The deceased who leaves a wife and three children had seen off his colleagues after watching an EPL match between Chelsea and Arsenal which ended in 2-2 score.
