A number of Journalists from Mombasa have since been ditching the media industry for government jobs, all this in search of greener pastures.
First on the list was Daniel Nyassy formerly of the Daily Nation who joined the Kwale County Government as a communications officer, next was Elkana Jacob who was a senior photographer and investigations reporter with the Star newspaper, he is now the Director of Communications at the Nairobi County Government.
Just last month KTN lost two of its Journalists from Mombasa, Edmond Job who was a camera man left the media house and joined the office of the Deputy President (Media department) in the same capacity as a camera man, Victor Ogalle who had only worked for four months as a reporter for the media house in Mombasa also left the station for cross tv, a television station owned by Kenya Red Cross.
Before Joining KTN where he has worked for five years , Eddy a three time award winning worked for KBC, Citizen, and NTV as a correspondent and mainly covering Kwale and Lamu regions. On his part Ogalle was from fresh from the Nakuru bureau and he had joined KTN as a sports reporter before shifting to hard news.
The latest Journalists to make a similar move is the star Newspaper Mombasa correspondent Calvin Onsarigo who is said to be on his way out, according to a reliable source the Journalist who mainly majored on crime stories will be joining one of the leading parastatals in the country as an information officer.
Word has it that one of the photographers from the Star Newspaper in Mombasa will also be joining the Deputy President William Ruto’s media team.
