The Coast general hospital which serves the larger part of the Coast region and located in Mombasa is set to offer kidney transplant servics to its patients.
According to the facility chief administrator Dr Iqbal Khandwall the services are expected to start in January next year. Speaking on Wednesday before an operation exercise for five patients with heart problems at the facility, Dr Khandwall noted that the hospital will transform into a sub specialty -referal hospital. The programme is set to be a collaboration between the hospital and the Kenyatta National hospital(KNH) and will help alot in decongesting KNH.
This is not the first time that the hospital is carrying out heart surgeries, on July the hospital carried out its first exercise to three patients who are currently on the path to recovery.
Meanwhile the Mombasa County government is setting up a state of the art oncology centre at the hospital.
