Lydia Mkamburi is a photojournalist working with the Star newspaper attached to the Mombasa bureau. She is currently the only female photojournalist in the region(Coast).

1…What was your first phone?

My first phone was a Nokia 6300, it was the best gadget I had at that time. I actually treated it like my baby.

2…Which is your favourite book and  movie?

Succes Through a Positive Mental Attittude by Napoleon Hill and W Clement Stone, the book has taught me to view life on both sides of the coin.what the mind can conceive and believe – the mind can achieve.”It has also taught me to think clearly and explore the subconscious for new ideas.

A s for movies, I can spend the whole day watching Oga.

3….Which kind of music do u like?

I love Bongo music, I’m a big fan of Diamond, I cannot miss any of his events.

4…..Who is your  favourite local and international artist

Diamond is my favourite local artiste and he has never disappointed me.

Internationally, I love Joe, he sings songs that will always make a woman feel good about herself

5…….What part of your job do you like the most/ find interesting?

Photography, it makes me express myself in a way that every ordinary person can understand.Like they say a picture speaks a thousand words.

6…..What inspired you to get into your job?

My first inspiration was my voice, I have always known myself to be having the best authoritative and sweet voice. It’s a tool that I knew will earn me attention anytime I speak.

7….If you were a politician, what would you change in our society?

How men perceive women in the society. They always see us as the weeker sex but should know that we can do better that them in so many ways and fields of career.

8……If you were to change your career which one would you go for?

I would study Law, it’s a proffession I have developed some love for, and if possible I would persue it in the coming years.

9….What has been your fear since childhood?

Darkness, if you want to scare me use it.

10….What would be your advice to the youths

They should go for what they want in life and nothing should stop them.In order for one to become a successful person in life, they should not be scared of challenges. They are always there to strengthen them and above all they should keep God before anything else.
